You’ve seen the news footage, photos and videos of rioters destroying police cars during violent riots in 2020. By June of 2020 rioters in Los Angeles California damaged 156 Los Angeles Police (LAPD) cars, and totaled 8 of them. These cars will cost tax payers $80,000 each to replace, and a total of $640,000 in total damages to LAPD cars and equipment.
Law enforcement agencies use crimes and violence like this to justify the purchase of military surplus vehicles (See History of SWAT Vehicles) as well as purchasing new armored vehicles such as the Lenco Bearcat’s shown below.

I worked part time as a police officer and full time as a Security Sergeant doing armed mobile security patrols for a local security company. In 1990 I became a State Trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
