Aerodynamically Designed To Reduce Air Drag

The Model 8000 enclosed crossbar series are the latest, most advanced design in combination sound/light systems. The use of a highly sophisticated mirror and optical system produces light in the viewing position of 108 square inches per STROBE II flash… the most illumination of any bar on the market today. Aircraft engineering considerations were given to the shape of the bar and outer Lexan optic dome to provide an absolute minimum air drag. The smooth surface with the optical structure on the inside coupled with the hemispherical design of the ends of the outer optic dome, insure that the end lights are always clear of snow, ice, or dirt.

Introduced In 1978

Introduced in 1978. the Model 8000 Series enclosed audio visual strobe crossbar system is aerodynamically designed to reduce air drag. The 8000 Series features an output of 15 joules per main flash. High low intensity adjustment is supplied as standard. A 6 candlepower steady burning cruise light inside the 360 degree head is standard. Crossbars are available in 47-inch or 52-inch lengths. Specify when ordering. One or two speakers are available for 52-inch crossbar. Only one speaker may be used in the 47-inch crossbar.

Whelen offers “TAKE DOWN” lights for the Model 8000 Series. The small 2-1/2″ diameter cut-out affords the law enforcement officer additional protection but does not interfere with the emergency light function.

Shown in detail is the 8000 series draw strap system to fit vehicles with or without rain gutters. Standard strap length is 18″. Also shown is our supplemental flood light system available for any crossbar system.

The Model 8000 is available for permanent installation using 1/2″ bolts for flat surfaces. For highly curved surfaces a 1-1/2″ riser bracket of heavy aluminum is available. Specify when ordering. For these applications no draw strap assemblies are provided.

Whelen 8000 Models

Whelen Model 8002

(California Approved Model 8002-C)

Dual 360 degree strobe head system flashes alternately 120 STROBE II flashes per minute, 60 times per side. 4 amps at 14 volts DC.

When ordering please specify rear OR front facing mirror. Color of outer optic domes, Red, Blue, Amber, or Clear. If two colors are specified indicate which one on drivers side. When using clear optic domes, specify color of inner rings, Red, Blue or Amber, at extra cost.

Whelen Model 8038

Dual 360 degree strobe head system combined with two rear facing high intensity sealed beam strobe system. Sealed beam strobes may face front by simple field modification. A relay and switch are used to select either the 360 degree strobe OR the sealed beam strobe system. Each system flashes 120 STROBE II alternating flashes per minute. 60 times per side. This system does not allow use of both 360 degree and sealed beams at the same time. 4 amps at 14 volts DC.

When ordering please specify rear OR front facing sealed beam strobes, which will position mirror accordingly. Color of outer optic domes, Red, Blue, Amber, or Clear. If two colors are specified indicate which one on drivers side. When using clear outer optic domes specify color of inner rings and sealed beam strobes. Red, Blue, or Amber at extra cost.

Whelen Model 8028

Dual 360 degree strobe head system combined with two rear OR front facing high intensity sealed beam strobe system utilizing two power supplies allowing the operator to select either the 360 degree strobe head system OR the sealed beam strobe system OR both systems together, each flashing alternately 120 STROBE II flashes per minute, 60 times per side. 8 amps at 14 volts DC.

Whelen Model 8029

Dual 360 degree strobe head system combined with two front AND two rear facing high intensity sealed beam strobe system. Two power supplies allow the operator to select either the 360 degree strobe head system OR the sealed beam strobe system OR both systems together, each flashing alternately 120 STROBE II flashes per minute 60 flashes per side. 8 amps at 14 volts DC. Relay option to provide front (pursuit) or rear flashing sealed beams only, available at extra cost.

Please Note:

Because of the low power consumption, all Whelen strobe lights can be used WITHOUT VEHICLE ENGINE RUNNING, thereby saving precious fuel. Savings in fuel after only one year will more than offset the initial cost of strobe safety lighting equipment.

All Whelen strobe lights utilize a power supply immune to problems associated with voltage variations eliminating flash tube ionization.
